Christmas 2013

If you  put two and two together, you can probably figure out why this blog has been so inactive during this Christmas season!

 Here are some other reasons:

Abbi turned 15 on December 13!
Where did my little girl go?
Jacob's 7th grade softball team placed 2nd during an all day tournament.

Staff party, class party, and three musical concerts (Ben, Abbi, and Jacob) to attend!

The Shalu youth group had a large Christmas gathering with 60
some people attending. Carl was given the blessed opportunity to
share why Christians celebrate Christmas!

The younger members of the group showcasing their musical talents!

The students did a gift exchange. Jacob's gift? A bottle of Belgium fruit
beer! Not a typical children's gift exchange item. He got quite a kick out
of it!
And yes, believe it or not, I once again was required to sing Country Roads!
Michael LOVES this song!
All the OMS missionaries gathered to celebrate the birth of our Savior!
Food and fellowship!

Matt Williamson, Nick, and Isaac Bettinger-  MK buddies

And of course, the general busyness of Christmas time!

So from our house in Taiwan to your house, wherever God has placed you,
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Stay tuned for pictures and details of what we did on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day!

Thanksgiving in Kenting

I love being a part of the Morrison community.

It's a unique experience.  Morrison staff live together, work together, worship together. Your coworker can be your neighbor, as well as a parent of one of your students. Or as in my class last year, the principal was also one of my parents. His wife my aide.

In addition, the mixing, combining of cultures. Not just American and Taiwanese, but Canadian, South African, Australian, Korean, British, and Chinese.

But there is another community of which we are members.

And that is the One Mission Society, or OMS. We are very blessed to be included among this special group of people. Besides Morrison staff, the Taiwan OMS family includes church planters, English evangelism teachers, family counselors, and seminary professors.

Last weekend, during our Thanksgiving break, OMS missionaries from all over the Taiwan island gathered in the southern city, Kenting. For four days we ate, worshiped, hiked,  and just generally had a great time together.

As you can tell by the position of my hair, it was rather windy!
Otherwise, what a good looking bunch!

One of our first activities was a scamera hunt. We were divided into five groups. Each group was given a camera, a map, and a sheet of clues written as a limerick. For the next four hours we traveled around the most southern tip of the island looking for the correct landmarks. Once located, the limerick provided clues as to what and who was to be digitally captured.

Our team consisted Carl, myself, Abbi, Jacob, three other teens, and Ryan, one of our counselors. Nick and Ben were on another team. Points were given for correctness, as well as creativity. Our team specialized in the creative department!

The clue said to "shoot" the sign,
so we decided to shoot the sign.

A short time later we saw this sign on the side of the road
and did an after picture.

Yes, you can even get Starbucks in Kenting!

Whooping and hollering at Nixon Rock beach.
Yep, they're shooting another sign.

Jacob being a loon on a sand dune.

Abraham sacrificing his son. The angel stopped him
and provided a lamb instead!

The clue instructed a married couple to reenact a proposal.
Ironically, that day was the 20th anniversary of Carl
proposing!

The last stop was lunch!

Now that you have looked at all the pictures, look again. In them all, except maybe the team picture by the van, had this little gnome posing with us. Can you find him?

(Thank you for the gnomes Ann, Sarah, and Becca. )

Here are some pictures from Nick and Ben's team:

Praise

My Jesus. My Savior.
Lord, there is none like you.
All of my days, I want to praise
The wonders of your mighty love.

My comfort. My shelter.
Tower of refuge and strength.
Let every breath, all that I am
Never cease to worship you.

Mountains bow down

And the seas will roar

At the sound of your name.

I sing for joy at the work of your hands.
Forever I'll love you.
Forever I'll stand.
Nothing compares to the promise I have in you!

Amen!

Praising God for the beauty and total awesomeness (not a real word) of this land that He has allowed me to call home for the last seventeen months.

The work of His hands continually amaze me.

The love of His heart continues to capture me.

The patience for those He calls His own constantly astounds me.
