Do you remember that childhood song, used on Sesame Street, about one thing being different, not like the others? Can you pick out the one that doesn't belong below?
Ahh, but he does. Even though he doesn't speak the same language, nor has he had any culinary training, they have accepted him as one of them. He cuts, he dices, he preps, he washes.
So if you have wondered how Nick has been spending his time lately, there you go!
God has provided another unique opportunity for Nick. Over the upcoming Chinese New Year holiday, Nick will be traveling with a few other Morrison alumni, students, and staff to assist in the continuing recovery of the typhoon devastated areas of the Phillipines. The aeas of ministry will be construction, a children feeding program, and medical.
As I am sure most of you remember, the largest typhoon ever slammed into this small island nation. Many lives were lost, homes destroyed, means of livelihood decimated. Unbelievable damage and loss.
Because of Morrison's close proximity to the Phillipines, relationships between ministries and missionaries were already in place. Two OMS missionaries and part of the Morrison community traveled to an area reeling in destruction early Dcember. Their personal accounts and testimonies are heart breaking.
The Morrison community was in the perfect position to offer aid. Individual students, as well as classes immediately sprang into action. The junior class set aside a large chunk of their Junior Carnival profits to be sent to the hurting families. A group of Sophmores spent a Saturday afternoon baking cookies for a bake sale.
Another Sophmore group made and sold snow cones after school for two weeks.
The cost of such a mission trip, is small compared to that of traveling from America. Airfare from Taiwan to the Philippines is much more doable. Be that as it may, Nick is still in need of financial funds to pay for his ticket. If God leads you to, you may send funds through our home church Faith Assembly (address is below). Please write on the check the purpose of the gift. You can also contribute to the team fund that will help purchase supplies during this trip. http://www.stayclassy.org/ events/morrison-friends-to- tacloban/e29524
More importantly, I covet your prayers for Nick as he steps out in faith. This trip will be emotionally difficult, and most likely physically taxing as well. I am praying that God's protection and strength will guide the team and lives will be changes, both of the Talcoban people of the Philippines and the Westerners of Morrison.
Thank you!
