Sunday Afternoon Drive

This was not your typical Sunday afternoon drive.

The beautiful mountains beside the ocean in Taitung were calling, no begging, us to come explore.

Like most mountains, they looked, uninhabited. But were they? And what was the view like? So on a cloudy Sunday afternoon, three of us, Carl, Abbi, and  myself set out to find the answers.

Following the main road north, we looked for a road heading up and away from the ocean. It didn't take long and soon we were experiencing another paradise. Lush foliage, hidden valleys, and glimpses of the ocean satisfied our need for beauty. The farther up we progressed, the narrower and steeper the road became. Tucked among the trees and rock formations, were numerous farms.

One spot grabbed our attention. It was a grove of palm trees gently blowing in the wind sitting above the road. From the van we couldn't tell if perhaps the ocean could be seen so we decided to hike up to that point and see for ourselves.

While we  could hear the waves, too many trees blocked the visual path.

It never hurts to dream a little.
